FOURAU Hugues or FOUREAU
French painter
19th century

Born on May 9th, 1803 in Paris
Died on December 1st, 1873 in Paris

Painter of history, mythological compositions, genre paintings, portraits.

Entered at the School of Beauxl Arts of Paris in 1828, he was trained by Pierre Guérin and Antoine Gros.

He exhibited to the Fair of Paris from 1827 to 1864.

He carried out paintings of history, scenes of genre and portraits. It is this last discipline which was worth the most orders to him.

Among his canvas, one quotes:
- “The death of the Greek patriarch Gregoire”
- “The death of Adonis”
- “Maternal affection”
- “The insane one”
- “Ulysses and Nausicaa”
- “Defense of Valencians in 1793 by the Ferrand General”
- “Ambroise Paré”
